Job Description

A busy facility maintenance services company is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join their team.

This position performs advanced accounting functions, including complex account reconciliations, month-end close activities, financial analysis, journal entry preparation, and oversight of cash management and banking activities.

The Senior Staff Accountant also assists with the development and maintenance of accounting policies, internal controls, and financial reporting processes to ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, and Company policies.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Lead assigned month-end and year-end close activities, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting analyses.
  • Prepare and analyze account fluctuations, researching and resolving discrepancies.
  • Submit daily Positive Pay files and monitor banking activity to safeguard Company assets.
  • Prepare and file monthly and annual sales and use tax returns accurately and on time.
  • Verify new and updated vendor banking information and maintain vendor payment templates in accordance with internal controls.
  • Process and review wire transfers, ACH payments, and NACHA files as requested by Payroll and Accounts Payable.
  • Assist with cash management activities, including monitoring cash balances and supporting cash forecasting.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and ensure compliance.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses to audit requests.
  • Support the preparation of annual federal, state, and local tax filings by gathering required financial information, reconciling tax-related accounts, and working with external tax advisors.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX requirements, and Company accounting policies.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and recommend solutions that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with departments across the organization to resolve accounting, banking, and financial reporting issues.
  • Perform special projects, financial analyses, and other duties as assigned by the Financial Controller.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Experience with SOX compliance and internal controls preferred.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems; proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as PivotTables, XLOOKUP, and data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while fostering collaboration across departments.
  • Demonstrated initiative and continuous improvement mindset.
  • High degree of integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential information.
