Job Description

A well-established global manufacturer of control, safety, and hazardous area solutions is seeking a Material Handler to join the team. The ideal candidate is hands-on, organized, an effective communicator, and able to work independently while taking ownership of their work in a safe manner. The Material Handler is responsible for performing a combination of duties to support Operations, including picking and staging production orders, supporting inventory accuracy, and assisting with shipping, while coordinating with the Operations Manager on special projects to meet customer demand.

Location: Houston, TX 77064
Type of Position: Temp-to-Hire

Hours: 7am-4pm/8-5 M-F with overtime as needed

Responsibilities:
  • Pick production shop order part from inventory and place jobs in work cell. Care must be taken to assure correct parts are picked and orders are clearly marked per shop order.
  • Work closely with Shop floor coordinator on expediting and following hot customer orders through the shop.
  • Work closely with Shop Floor Coordinator and Operations Manager supporting cycle counts, inventory accuracy, and putting away received inventory, shipping materials, and misc. items.
  • Support shipping clerk by packing products, shrink wrapping pallets, and supporting the workflow.
  • Cross train in the above functions to provide support when personnel are away from work.
  • Perform other duties as requested by Operations Manager.
  • May work in assembly and follow detailed assembly instructions and processes only when other duties are completed.
  • Follow Quality Policy and Procedures, OSHA guidelines and regulations governing workplace safety.
  • Follow all company Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures at all times.
  • Respond to change productively and handle other duties as required.
  • Work independently and employ effective time management skills.
  • Overtime as required.

Requirements:
  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-year experience with manufacturing processes including inventory, stocking and part picking experience
  • Must be proficient in operating power equipment (stand-up forklift, sit down forklift)
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Frequent reaching and climbing of stairs
  • Pushing and lifting/carrying boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Average vision and hearing sufficient; position is physically demanding
  • Ability to work in a production area with varying noise levels and occasional exposure to fumes from chemicals, paints, and assembly glues
