Job Description

A fast-growing, stable, and innovative global trading company in the specialty chemicals industry is seeking a Sr. Sales Manager to join its Houston-based chemical trading team. This is primarily a business development role focused on identifying new customers, verticals, and business opportunities, with exposure to both specialty and commodity chemical trading. The Sr. Sales Manager is responsible for contributing to the achievement of the department's financial and business goals by servicing existing business and supporting new business development activities.

Responsibilities:
  • In-person work at the assigned office location is a regular component of this role's responsibilities.
  • Develop & execute new business development through identifying and contacting new customers/vendors and conducting sales presentations and promoting new products and services.
  • Maintain close communication with customers to answer questions on credit terms, products, and pricing.
  • Maintain and expand existing business.
  • Manage international trading activities across multiple regions, including commercial negotiations, logistics coordination, trade documentation, and risk management.
  • Identify market trends, supply-demand changes, and strategic business opportunities to support the growth objectives of the department.
  • Contribute to the achievement of departmental business development goals beyond assigned accounts and existing business.
  • Manage pricing and other conditions and negotiate sales/purchase conditions with customers and suppliers.
  • Prepare sales contracts, purchase orders, price quotations and other business documents.
  • Manage all the logistics including shipping arrangements, delivery status and document preparation to ensure timely delivery of products. Inform customers of any delays or delivery issues and resolve any issues to support their smooth business operations and maintain high customer satisfaction.
  • Resolve complex customer complaints and order discrepancies by investigating, collecting pertinent information/documentation, discussing the possible solutions with the Director, and negotiating solutions with suppliers and/or customers.
  • Manage proper level of inventory and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
  • Credit Management.
  • Set up/renew Credit Limits; monitor credit limits and accounts receivables and follow up with customers on outstanding payments to avoid credit violations.
  • Monitor the account receivable with customers on a regular basis.
  • Supervise an assistant to ensure correct ledger entries and sales/purchase document preparations.
  • Prepare monthly reports.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Requirements:
  • Over 5 years of prior experience in sales and marketing, preferably in Chemicals with product knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, any other related field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Basic knowledge of incoterms and cost calculation to make a quote/offer to suppliers/clients
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively with suppliers and customers
  • Ability to establish communication with the company's global network
  • Ability to establish professional communication with assistant and co-workers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office especially word, excel and power point
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles
  • Strong sense of customer service
  • Strong negotiation and problem solving skills
  • Must possess basic analytical skills and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to maintain confidential information
  • Driver's license and must be able to travel for business
