Our client, a growing firm in Houston, is seeking an Insurance Defense Litigation Attorney to join their Houston office. This role involves representing clients in civil defense litigation, managing cases through all phases from investigation to trial, and working with insurance carriers and insured clients on various claims.

Salary + Additional Benefits:
$140,000-$175,000 DOE

Responsibilities:

• Investigate claims, evaluate liability and damages, review applicable insurance coverage, and develop effective defense strategies.
• Draft and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and other legal documents.
• Conduct and defend depositions of plaintiffs, fact witnesses, and expert witnesses.
• Perform legal research and analysis to support case strategy and litigation decisions.
• Communicate regularly with insurance adjusters, clients, and other relevant parties regarding case status, evaluations, and recommended strategies.
• Negotiate settlements and represent clients in mediations, arbitrations, and trials as needed.
• Manage a caseload efficiently while meeting court deadlines, client expectations, and billable hour requirements.
• Maintain accurate case files, monitor litigation budgets, and ensure compliance with billing guidelines.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Active Texas license.
• 5+ years of experience in civil litigation, insurance defense, or a related practice area; 4 years considered if insurance defense litigation specific.
• Experience with pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, and litigation strategy.
• Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
• Strong communication and client relationship management skills.
• Familiarity with billable hour requirements, litigation management systems, and insurance carrier billing guidelines.
• Practice area focus: insurance defense litigation primarily, with construction litigation and other defense litigation also considered.
