Job Description
A collaborative, team-oriented global maritime company based in the Galleria area of Houston is seeking a Head of Commercial Finance to work closely with business sectors to optimize return on current investments, identify strategic opportunities for financial growth, and facilitate cost-saving initiatives that maximize business profitability.
The ideal candidate is a commercially minded senior finance leader with deep experience in international corporate environments and a strong command of financial reporting, budgeting, and team development. Reporting to the Director of Commercial Finance, the new hire will manage overall financial activities, ensure compliance with internal and external reporting requirements, and lead a high-performing global finance team.

Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of financial accountants and business analysts, with a direct reporting line to the Director of Commercial Finance and a dotted line to the Global Director of Asset Management.
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports and analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for both business management reporting and entity-level financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure proper processes are adhered to within the team -- recording of entries, performing reconciliations, and monthly close.
- Monitor all balance sheet matters including fixed assets records, trade debtor collections, accruals, and prepayments.
- Ensure adequate planning, execution, and follow-up of internal and external audits.
- Lead the annual budgeting process across commercial sectors and collaborate with business leaders to develop financial plans aligned with company objectives.
- Work with business sectors to develop the monthly forecast; identify areas of concern or opportunity, conduct variance analysis, and provide explanations to stakeholders.
- Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and financial modelling, to support decision-making and drive business performance.
- Monitor business costs including ship operating costs, dry-docking, and charter hire expenses.
- Oversee credit review and monitor credit exposures across the customer base.
- Manage annual tax filing for each entity in coordination with the group tax function.
- Coordinate various statutory filings to local authorities as required.
- Drive process improvements and efficiency initiatives within the finance function to enhance productivity and effectiveness.
- Build and develop a high-performing finance team; provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to foster professional growth and achieve departmental goals.
- Support ad hoc projects as required, including evaluation of business and investment opportunities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Professional certification preferred: CPA, ACCA, ACA, or CIMA
- At least 7 years of relevant experience in a management role within an international corporation
- Minimum 5 years of commercial or shipping-related industry experience preferred
- Experience managing senior management-level stakeholders and a diverse team in remote locations
- Experience managing organizational change and team realignment
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with professional presence and high integrity
- Sharp analytical mind with strong accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize competing demands, and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to deliver solutions in ambiguous environments with differing stakeholder opinions
- Experience coordinating activities across multiple time zones and diverse cultural environments
- Occasional overnight travel and weekend/evening work may be required
