Job Description

A well-established real estate development company is looking for a VP of Construction to oversee and manage its operations, financials, and employees. The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking leader with excellent communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and management skills. Working cross-functionally, the new VP will drive operational excellence through effective leadership focusing on safety, culture, revenue, and the bottom-line profit of the company.

Location: South Houston, TX
Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Define, implement, and revise operational policies and guidelines for the organization.
  • Develop and execute new growth directives.
  • Work with the other management and outside consultants to create job descriptions, hire competent personnel, and oversee employee training programs.
  • Work with the other management to develop and implement staff evaluation parameters.
  • Liaise with departmental heads to develop financial plans and ensure company-wide operational compliance.
  • Keep track of the company’s revenue margins and conduct budget reviews to maximize profits.
  • Oversee client support services.
  • Manage procurement and resource allocation.
  • Serve as primary contact for all clients.
  • Manage daily activities at the company at the highest level.
  • Manage weekly outlook for all projects and determine key areas of focus.
  • Guide employees as to the best way to efficiently manage their time and establish priorities.
  • Maintain authority on legal and financial matters.
  • Delegate as needed to efficiently operate the company.
  • Oversee new hires, as needed to assure effectively and timely integration into the business.
  • Negotiate contracts and facilitate client relationships.
  • Oversee subcontractor relationships and negotiate any necessary agreements that cannot be done by the Estimating Manager.
  • Review current jobs budget report, cash report, and business financials on a weekly basis to determine current status and future cash flows and address any issues proactively.
  • Communicate with advisors, as needed (CPA, Attorney, Engineers).
  • Make recommendations and give opinions regarding operations, employees, and business outlook to the CEO.

Requirements:
  • Communication skills to discuss issues persuasively and clearly with direct subordinates while explaining their decisions and policies to those both outside and within the organization
  • Bachelors degree
  • 10-15 Years of experience - Background in commercial construction
  • Leadership experience (Projects and team leading)
  • Decision-making skills when managing an organization and establishing policies while assessing various options and selecting the best course of action
  • Leadership skills for leading an organization and coordinating resources, policies, and employees
  • Management skills to direct and shape an organization’s operations, including managing budgets, business plans, and employees
  • Problem-solving skills for identifying and resolving organizational issues, recognizing shortcomings, and carrying out solutions
  • 7+ year commercial/industrial construction Project Management experience (not assistant project manager) to include buy outs, budgeting, contact management, subcontracts, PO’s, crisis management, scheduling, schedule of values, etc.
  • Time-management skills for completing multiple tasks at the same time and usually under their own direction to make sure that they get their work done and meet goals
