Job Description

An industry leader in advanced modular energy solutions is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to apply technical expertise in the analysis and design of safety-related and non-safety-related structures. The ideal candidate is a skilled professional with a strong background in structural concrete and steel design, proficient in industry codes and advanced analysis tools. Working collaboratively, the new team member will enhance project success by delivering precise structural solutions while ensuring compliance with applicable standards and supporting innovative energy projects.

Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities: 
  • Use structural engineering tools and implement appropriate standards to design Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures, including post-processing analytical results and designing structures for various material types (concrete, steel, etc.).
  • Interact with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants in an effort to allow effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should possess or acquire general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams. 
  • Develop and review requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies. 
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills and routinely interact with contractors and/or regulatory bodies. 
  • Lead the oversight of suppliers and review technical information (i.e., drawings, reports, specifications, calculations, etc.) to ensure it aligns with statements of work and requirements documents. 
  • Provide mentorship to more junior team members. May be asked to take the lead in technical issues as needed. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 
  • A minimum of a BS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school is required. An advanced degree is preferred. A registered professional engineer license (P.E.) is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of nuclear/non-nuclear experience as a Structural Design Engineer is required
  • Additional required experience in the following areas:
    • Design and analysis of structures, including concrete and steel, use of design software and finite element method analyses
    • Working with the following codes preferred: ASCE 43, ASCE 4, ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, and AISC N690, Steel Construction Manual and Seismic Design Manual
    • Use of ANSYS is required
    • LS-DYNA is preferred
    • Computer programing skills (e.g., MATLAB, or Python) is not required, but preferred
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 (Requires US Citizens or US Permanent Residents)

  • Quality Assurance: Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers
  • Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
  • The employee frequently is required; to sit and stand; walk; bend, use hands to operate office equipment; and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
