Sr. Chiller Technician

Job Type: Direct Hire
Hours: 7:30am-4:30pm
Salary: $50-70/hr
Key Responsibilities:
- Preventive Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Develop, implement, and oversee preventive maintenance programs for chiller units. Respond to breakdowns, troubleshoot issues, and ensure quick resolution to minimize downtime.
- Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain detailed logs of maintenance schedules, manpower needs, parts orders, status of quoted work, and customer interactions. Prepare reports for upper management regarding the outcome of maintenance contracts and quoted work.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all chiller work comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Maintain a safe work environment by following OSHA safety guidelines and work with Safety Director to maintain safe practices.
- Budgeting & Resource Management: Assist in developing and managing the budget for the chiller operations. Ensure efficient use of resources, including labor, materials, and equipment, to maintain cost-effective operations.
- Installation & Upgrades: Oversee the installation, commissioning, and upgrades of chiller systems. Ensure the proper integration of new equipment with existing systems.
- Collaboration with Other Departments: Work closely with facility management, HVAC teams, and other departments to coordinate efforts in maintaining climate control systems and ensuring environmental comfort standards are met.
- Emergency Response: Act as the primary contact for emergencies related to chiller malfunctions, providing quick response and direction during critical failures or system shutdowns.
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate current processes and systems, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to increase the efficiency and reliability of the chiller operations.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in HVAC, refrigeration, or related field preferred
- Proven experience (8+ years) in chiller system operations, maintenance, and management
- Knowledge of industrial and commercial HVAC systems, including chiller controls, compressors, and pumps, energy efficiency, and refrigeration principles
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency in the use of hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and HVAC/R tools
- Knowledge of refrigerants, including handling and recovery protocols
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and schematics
- Familiarity with HVAC and refrigeration codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations
- Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 50 lbs)
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at elevated heights
- Comfortable working in various environmental conditions (hot, cold, noisy, etc.)
- Be on-call for emergency service requests during off-hours when necessary
- EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal) for refrigerant handling
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in HVAC/R or related field
- Journeyman License
- OSHA safety training or equivalent (preferred)
- Experience with large commercial or industrial chiller systems
- Previous experience in facility management or operations management
