Job Description

A world-class provider and ISO 9001-certified manufacturer in the oil & gas services industry is looking for a Sourcing Manager to oversee strategic sourcing, manage new supplier relationships, and handle supplier maintenance and training. The ideal candidate is an analytical leader with extensive knowledge of commodity sourcing and strong skills in project management, customer service, negotiation, and problem-solving. Working collaboratively, the new leader will spearhead revenue growth by developing and implementing strategies aimed at enhancing profitability and long-term value while upholding the highest ethical standards.

Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for leading and managing strategic sourcing, new supplier management, and supplier maintenance and training.
  • Manage the purchasing team, including exempt and non-exempt, for two product lines.
  • Manager with one direct report.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are expected upon accepting this position.
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures required, including steeled toed shoes, safety glasses, and other Personal Protective Equipment that is required in certain areas of the facility.
  • Maintain high ethical standards.
  • Manage the purchasing efforts to include building and maintaining strong supplier relationships, supplier score cards, and all-encompassing domestic and global supplier management.
  • Act as the company’s representative in negotiations with suppliers.
  • Manage the sourcing and development of suppliers and contract negotiations for one or more commodities globally.
  • Collaborate with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions.
  • Assess current material availability; reasonably predicts future availability based on the market, delivery systems, and other variables.
  • Prepare and present market conditions and materials cost reports.
  • Prepare Key Performance Indicators on a monthly basis, attend weekly leadership team staff meetings, and attend quarterly strategy meetings.
  • Prepare and process purchase orders and requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Draft, explain, and implement instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing and contract management.
  • Attend the 7 am daily production meeting to understand stock-outs and urgent production needs and root causes of any purchasing issues.
  • Evaluate and approve conditions for issuing and awarding bids.
  • Resolve grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Maintain and/or implement purchasing and recordkeeping systems.
  • Coordinate removal or disposal of surplus materials.
  • Participate in inventory management activities, including knowing when materials are received, ensuring inventory is counted, appropriate storage, and transportation of materials.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance against established contracts and processes.
  • Manage all commodity team projects.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management.
  • Manage supply chain productivity savings initiatives and activities.
  • Lead the purchasing team, including performance management, career development, time and attendance, and identifying and attracting top talent.
  • Develop, propose, and/or implement improvements to sourcing policies.
  • Manage Purchase Order processing and establish key metrics for tracking commitments of materials delivery to supermarket group.
  • Handle special supply chain and operations projects as assigned including continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in Lean events with active involvement in CI initiatives to continue to foster the continuous improvement culture.
  • Report unsafe acts or conditions to supervision immediately as noticed.
  • Manage a team of buyers and multiple global supplier activities, including a contractor in Asia.
  • Report to the General Manager.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, or equivalent experience and 5 years in sourcing and/or purchasing, or supply chain in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in managing Supplier Development Programs to improve OTD, Quality, and Service
  • Experience negotiating with domestic and international suppliers
  • Must be able to mitigate Single Source Suppliers by identifying alternatives in the industry
  • Broad commodity sourcing knowledge
  • Demonstrate ability to visualize and manage the implementation of creative solutions and respond appropriately and timely to customer needs
  • Proven customer service, project management, analytical, leadership, negotiation, problem solving, contracts and financial skills
  • Solid change management and conflict management skills
  • Excellent communications, facilitation, and presentation skills
  • Proficient in standard business enterprise and MS office software
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving organizational, and project management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to think independently and handle multiple projects through to completion
  • Record of successfully collaborating with and influencing senior management and peers
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and participate in cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated independent work initiative, sound judgment, diplomacy, analytical ability, and professional demeanor
  • Must be able to make effective presentations to diverse groups
  • Must be able to perform financial calculations and create and manage budgets
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%

  • Candidate must reside in Houston TX, or surrounding areas
  • Work week and shift: Monday through Friday, 7:00AM to 5:00PM, some evening work and weekend work will be required

  • PPE requirements include safety glasses and steel toes
  • Preferred experience includes:
  • At least 3 years in a Purchasing or Supply Chain management role
  • At least 5 years of experience in Metal Casting Industry and/or Injection Molding Industry
  • CPSM or national certification in supply chain and lean six sigma training
  • Experience in Oracle ERP
