Job Description

One of the nation’s largest private funding sources is looking for a Senior Accountant responsible for accounting for grant and investment activities. The ideal candidate understands internal controls well and has in-depth knowledge of accounting principles and best practices. Working cross-functionally, the new team member will meet the company’s financial objectives by effectively implementing accounting methods, processes, and procedures while ensuring the highest level of accuracy & efficiency.

Location: Houston, TX
Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for accounting for grant and investment activities, reconciling and reviewing investment’s K-1s, and investment annual audit report.
  • Prepare monthly investment report and asset graph, asset allocation reconciliation, average of assets.
  • In charge of the preparation of semimonthly payroll, monthly cash flow, and grant budget.
  • Assist with annual grant financial reviews, review and request refunds for terminating grants, update annual grant’s reports and graphs.
  • Assist with the annual/interim audit, quarterly tax estimate, and preparation of 990T and 990PF federal and state tax returns, F-bar Form 114, foreign, and payroll reports.
  • Stay abreast of developments and changes in GAAP accounting, audit compliance, and tax laws.
  • In charge of annual business/commercial insurance renewal.
  • Prepare and review materials for BOD meetings.
  • Engage with not-for-profit industry organizations to keep current on developments and best practices.
  • Assist in special projects assigned by the President/CFO.
  • Assist with the digitization and organization of accounting/finance records.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required
  • Three to five years of related work experience
  • CPA or actively pursuing CPA preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook required
  • Good understanding of internal controls
  • Work well in team environment
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Journal entries experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Analytical, highly motivated, and is willing to learn and grow with the company
