Sandblaster Operator

Job Description
Salary: $18-22/hr
Location: Houston, TX 77092
Type of Position: Temp-to-Hire
Hours: M-F 1st Shift (6 am-2:30 pm)
Responsibilities:
- Operate the sandblaster/ blast booth, lifting devices and overhead crane according to guidelines.
- Prepare metal parts by sandblasting areas on tools per print.
- Apply bonding agent on tools where indicated per print.
- Remove dirt, paint, grease, and other built-up material from surfaces.
- Interpret engineering drawings, engineering specifications and written process procedures.
- Interpret and follow posted production schedules.
- Work with labor and materials traceability documentation and guidelines, such as ISO 9001.
- Work with electronic labor reporting / job progress scanning.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements:
- One-year certificate from college or technical school and/or minimum of three to five years related experience as outlined above with prior assembly experience as well as material handling preferred
- Ability to work under close supervision. Ability to read and understand instructions as they pertain to machinery operation or departmental tasks
- Should be familiar with OSHA regulations, and able to recognize and read Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS) and Hazardous Materials Information System (HMIS) labels
- Must be able to read blueprints and tape measure
- Knowledge in sandblasting
- Attention to details
- Ability to work under a minimum of supervision in a manufacturing environment
- Basic to intermediate skills in MS Office products to include Word, Excel, ERP and MRP systems
- Familiarity with computer networks and e-mail
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write and/or complete routine reports
- Proficient in math. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
