Job Description

A well-established home building company is looking for a Purchasing Manager responsible for multiple management functions, negotiations, strategic purchasing, field & office relations, and budgeting. The ideal candidate has in-depth knowledge of multi-family and commercial construction and is familiar with BRIX software. Working cross-functionally, the new leader will develop efficient purchasing strategies & solutions to meet/exceed customer expectations while ensuring compliance with company policies & procedures and maintaining cost-effectiveness & quality standards.

Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Personnel and Management Functions
  • Supervise and evaluate staff.
  • Motivate and train staff.
  • Attend regular staff meetings to share information, problem solve, and solicit ideas for improvement.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting cost, pricing, and margin changes from month to month.
  • Provide tools, training, and direction for staff to accomplish cost establishment and budgeting.
  • Review and research major cost variations, extras, and budget to actual comparisons to determine resolutions, corrections, and improve the budget process.
  • Responsible for cost establishment and budgeting.
  • Strategic Purchasing
  • Assist in negotiating pricing and terms with vendors and make recommendations for any vendor changes.
  • Develop good working relationships with quality subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Establish an effective competitive bid environment and research new suppliers.
  • Establish price agreements with vendors and oversee entry/maintenance in system.
  • Field Relations
  • Ensure regular interaction with the field (including Construction Manager meetings) to exchange ideas, problem solve, etc.
  • Assist field with quality and scheduling issues and intervene with vendors as needed to assure maximum productivity.
  • Assist and support field with specific construction needs, including dealing with building codes and officials, providing training for builders as needed, providing appropriate construction standards and details.

Requirements:
  • 5+ years in a senior purchasing role with focus on negotiating with vendors and supervising staff
  • 5+ years of experience in the multi-family, commercial construction environment
  • Computer proficient; BRIX software preferred
  • Ability to analyze numbers and information and produce clear, communicative reports
