Job Description

A dynamic professional engineering consulting firm is currently seeking a Product Development Manager to join their team. The role demands strong technical knowledge, communication skills, and the ability to manage projects, people, and budgets effectively. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with stakeholders, developers, clients, and internal cross-functional teams while also playing a key role in the company's overall success and growth.

Location: Houston, TX
Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities: 
  • Supervise 3rd Party Software Developers & Project Manager
    • Attend daily or weekly meetings with developers during programming projects.
    • Review development progress, assist with design and workflow questions and issues.
    • Review changes, answer questions, and approve changes to ensure that development or bug fixes have required functionality.
    • Create and review maintenance and enhancement tickets, including, but not limited to, creating walkthroughs and videos of bugs, examples of issues or basic testing, suggested changes/fixes, and suggested database changes.
    • Approve closure of tickets.
    • Manage global changes, such as for compatibility with new software versions, libraries, or hardware.
    • Coordinate changes for efficiency (e.g., if changes impact a specific area of the software and there are additional planned changes in that area, it may be more efficient make all such changes at the same time).
    • Manage development budgets.
    • Review code as needed to help developers with business logic and troubleshooting (Java, Swift, Node.Js, React, MS SQL).
  • Software Deployments (assist and coordinate with developers and end-user clients)
    • Approve releases for deployment.
    • Coordinate deployments with end-user clients
    • Be available on-call at times of deployments for testing and troubleshooting.
    • Verify backups prior to deployments.
    • Post-deployment live testing.
    • Decision-maker on deployment issues, such as emergency fixes and rollbacks.
  • Documentation
    • Develop and maintain documentation for all components (both mobile programs and backend). 
    • Maintain documentation for all proposed modifications, including redlines of existing workflow that is reviewed and approved as part of the scope of work.
  • Testing 
    • Write and maintain a rigorous testing procedure.
    • Perform testing for all releases to production.
    • Coordinate acceptance testing with end-user clients.
  • Sales Support
    • Scope requested changes with end-user clients.
    • Prepare wireframes of changes (including draft screens and workflow) for review by end-user clients and use by programmers.
    • Develop budgets for proposed changes with software developers.
    • Perform demonstrations or presentations for potential clients as needed.
  • Implementation Support
    • Create end-user accounts and settings.
    • Work with end-user client IT on data transmission, IT security, Active Directory and similar implementation matters.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in technical field 
  • 4-10 years of relevant experience
  • Strong communication skills and ability to speak with stakeholders, developers, clients, and internal cross-functional teams.
