Job Description

A world-class large diameter pipe manufacturer in North America is looking for a Metallurgist to provide metallurgical support to the quality, production, and purchasing department. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator with a deep understanding of steel pipe manufacturing. Working cross-functionally, the new leader will drive operational excellence through effective recommendations and process optimization, ensuring adherence to manufacturing quality standards.

Location: Baytown, TX
Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities: 
  • Review standard and customer requirements to develop specifications for steel purchase.  
  • Liaise with steel technical representatives for technical requirements and issues.   
  • Perform data analysis to confirm conformance and overall performance trends of steel material.  
  • Perform metallurgical studies, investigation, and failure analysis.
  • Make recommendations and advise about product feasibility.
  • Ensure adherence to manufacturing quality standards.
  • Oversee lab testing operations.  
  • Carry out laboratory-based analysis of samples. 
  • Use both destructive and non-destructive techniques for investigation.
  • Develop new test and repair processes.
  • Perform process and data analysis and recommend improvements.

Requirements:
  • Minimum B.S. in Metallurgy or Material Science
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in steel industry preferably in steel pipe manufacturing
  • Should be able to read and interpret codes and specifications
  • NDT and welding qualification will be an added advantage
  • Excellent communication skills and should be able to prepare reports and send good written correspondence to customer and/ or TPI
  • Good leadership skill to lead team
  • Good computer skills – SAP, Excel, Word, and PPT
  • Specific vision abilities required to perform some specific jobs which includes distance vision, color vision, and depth perception
  • Able to read and interpret API 5L, API 5CT, API Spec Q1, ISO 9001 & applicable ASTM, and other standards
  • Should be able to delegate work assignments & treat others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position
  • Should have ability to coordinate with TPI, customer & other departments
