Job Description

A global engineering firm specializing in process modularization and project implementation is looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to participate in reviewing and approving all mechanical design aspects of the project. The ideal candidate has a general knowledge of construction principles & best practices. Working closely with the lead mechanical engineer, the new member will drive operational excellence by executing processes according to project requirements & specifications while ensuring standards of accuracy & efficiency.

Location: Alvin, TX
Type of Position: Direct Hire

  • Participate in the review and approval of all mechanical design aspects of the project including:
    • Plant layout, pipe specs, and pressure vessel design 
    • Structural design with a special focus on ISO 1496 (truck transportable) module frames
    • Sign off on final “approval to construct” drawings from the vessel fabricators. 
  • Liaise with contract engineering mechanical resources during detailed design to resolve any design/execution questions. Focus on the timely resolution of all issues that influence engineering house efficiency.  
  • Participate in approving 3D model reviews/changes as they become necessary in detailed engineering.
  • Work with and oversee vendors for plant components, including module fabrication and other components. 
  • Develop the module erection sequencing plan.
  • Overall to perform an “owners” oversight and decision-making role during detailed engineering to support efficient/timely execution of the engineering phase of the project.
  • Oversee, inspect, and expedite modules and equipment.
  • Supervise module assembly and erection including:
    • Module transportation coordination, staging, and sequencing.
    • Control of module erection/connection sequence.
    • Key contact for the construction contractors QC department. Prompt resolution of any construction questions/clarifications through the request for information (RFI) process.
    • Relentless focus on anything that makes the construction contractor more efficient.
    • Change order management/resolution.
    • Verification of “built as designed” (yellow lining).
    • Develop a “lessons learned” document that captures opportunities for improved execution on future plants. 
  • Provide onsite oversight of the pre-erection site construction activities including:
    • Site clearing, pond construction, and elevation correction.
    • Piling, underground mat, underground piping, and pier foundation installation
    • All above ground site-built components (tanks, piperacks, silos, etc.)
    • Construction building installation

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in the chemical industry
  • PE license is preferred 
  • Working knowledge of ASME section VIII, ANSI/ASME piping codes, TEMA
  • General knowledge of construction principles/practices
  • Shop and/or maintenance experience desirable
  • Computer skills, including MS office, and project scheduling software
  • Willing to work longer hours during the 4-month construction phase of the project
  • Enjoy/excel in a small, dynamic, collaborative, and results-driven team environment
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Detailed engineering will be completed in the Houston area, travel required around Houston area to meet with partners
    • Current client plant sites are in Beaumont and Baton Rouge with more to come. Travel to site is necessary and dependent upon project timing and progress review as to how much travel is required
    • Select travel to vendors to review quality of key fabricated equipment items is required and is possibly international and could be for extended periods of time
    • During the pre-erection phase of the project, 50% of time is spent at the plant site and during the 4 month module erection period, 100% of time is spent at plant site
