Job Description

An industry leader in advanced modular energy solutions is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and evaluate components for a modular advanced light water reactor. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a strong background in industry standards and advanced engineering analysis tools, including finite element analysis. Working collaboratively, the new team member will enhance the efficiency and reliability of components by optimizing designs, mentoring staff, and coordinating across disciplines while ensuring compliance with rigorous industry standards and quality assurance requirements.

Responsibilities: 
  • Possess excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations. 
  • Perform and document evaluations of components to the rules and requirements of Section III of the ASME BPVC for Subsection NB, NG, and NF components. Utilize the results from these evaluations to optimize component(s) design. 
  • Prepare and/or review engineering specifications, CAD models, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with the NSSS. 
  • Possess excellent knowledge of the ANSYS finite element software. 
  • Possess working knowledge of CAD packages. 
  • Interpret scope and project requirements. 
  • Acquire, maintain, and develop training qualifications. Provide guidance and mentoring to other staff members in all areas of NSSS Systems and Design. 
  • Interact with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 
  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required; An advanced degree is preferred. A professional engineer (P.E.) certification is required; Certifying Engineer experience to ASME BPVC Section III is required
  • A minimum of 15 years of full-time relevant working experience is required; Candidates must be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience with engineering design and stress engineering analysis (design by analysis methodology), in the nuclear industry, as well as expertise with the ANSYS computer program
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 (Requires US Citizens or US Permanent Residents)

  • Quality Assurance: Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers
  • Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
  • The employee frequently is required; to sit and stand; walk; bend, use hands to operate office equipment; and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation. (This is a general statement that will cover if there is some travel to conferences or vendor sites.
