Job Description

A leading independent oilfield services company is looking for a Material Handler to manage the movement of materials around the plant, yard, or worksite, including loading and unloading tasks. The ideal candidate is a safety leader with a solid understanding of manufacturing production processes. Working closely with the Machine Shop Manager, the new team member will promote operational excellence by efficiently executing processes, maximizing productivity and quality, and strictly adhering to all company policies and procedures.
                                               
Salary: $18-21/hr
Location: Houston, TX 77092
Type of Position: Temp-to-Hire
Hours: M-F 6AM-3PM

Responsibilities:
  • Read work order or follow oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
  • Load and unload materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
  • Convey materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
  • Secure lifting attachments to materials and convey load to destination or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination.
  • Count, weigh, and record number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
  • Attach identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
  • Stack or assemble materials into bundles and band bundles together.
  • Lift heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, and clean work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators.
  • Load and unload truck via forklift.
  • Operate industrial trucks to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Set-up and operation of saw to produce accurate cuttings of tubular steel, per verbal instructions or by reading engineering drawings or blueprints.
  • Maintain accurate recordings of cuttings and keep balanced records of remaining lengths of steel in stock or on hand, by OD measurement, from which cuttings have been made.
  • Operate other machinery as required to complete a process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to work under close supervision
  • Ability to operate a forklift and pass a forklift certification class
  • Ability to read and understand instructions as they pertain to machinery operation or departmental tasks
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and blueprints
  • Ability to pass a test designed to demonstrate finger, hand, wrist, and arm dexterity in order to operate proper stamping identification equipment and electric buffing equipment
  • Should be familiar with OSHA regulations and able to recognize and read Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDS) and Hazardous Materials Information System (HMIS) labels
