Job Description

A leading company in turn-key chemical blending, toll manufacturing, and private label packaging services is seeking a Logistics Specialist to manage carrier relationships and oversee efficient shipping and receiving operations. The ideal candidate is a proactive communicator with strong organizational skills and experience in traffic or transportation management. Working collaboratively, the new hire will optimize transportation spend by negotiating cost-effective rates while ensuring smooth coordination between carriers, internal teams, and customers.

Type of Position: Temp-to-Hire

Job Summary:
  • Analyze and coordinate the logistical functions of the company. Ensure alignment of organized distribution execution of inventory while maintaining the company vision, purpose, priorities, and excellent customer service. 
  • Plan, implement, control, and measure cost effectiveness and network efficiencies for the flow of goods and services from the point of origin to the point of consumption. 
  • Maintain configurations of lanes, rates, carriers, equipment, and user execution data on ERP system platforms. 

Job Responsibilities:
  • Serve as an elevated logistics point of contact for internal & external customers on transportation inquiries. 
  • Define and develop distribution processes & key performance indicators for the company’s logistics department. 
  • Document procedures for execution, and policies for both carriers and logistics team members to align with departmental directives. 
  • KPIs on distribution logistics performance, costs, and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Assist with transportation bids and RFP projects for negotiating freight rates and lane volumes.
  • Recommend shipping solutions to minimize costs while maintaining the appropriate level of service for our customers.
  • Monitor shipment routes, transit times, documentation accuracy, equipment selection, and order consolidation
  • Improve consolidation of loads and daily orders within preferred proximity of destinations to reduce costs to organizational overhead. 
  • Assist with issue resolution for inbound and outbound freight lanes and customer orders. 
  • Analyze shipping lanes, costs, and order frequency to simplify, modernize, and improve transportation execution, equipment selection, and order processing consolidation, while maintaining a competitive transportation network with domestic freights. 
  • Explain proposed solutions to customers, management, or other interested parties through written proposals and oral presentations. 
  • Review logistics performance against targets, benchmarks, and service agreements. 
  • Report on project plans, progress, and results. 
  • Develop and implement technical project management tools such as plans, schedules, and responsibility and compliance matrices. 
  • Direct team activities, establishing task priorities, scheduling, and tracking work assignments, providing guidance, and ensuring the availability of resources 

Job Requirements:
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, & organizational skills
  • Transportation bid and RFP management experience preferred. (Freight & parcel tariff experience preferred) 
  • Proven ability to think independently and handle multiple projects through to completion
  • Record of successfully collaborating with and influencing senior management and peers
  • Demonstrated independent work initiative, sound judgment, diplomacy, & analytical ability. Commitment to excellence
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills, attention to project detail and the development of alternative plans to ensure satisfactory delivery of inventory
  • Tactical logistics execution experience required. Chemical industry preferred

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Transportation/Logistics/Supply Chain Management preferred
  • 5 + years in logistics operations and transportation management environment
