HSE Trainee
Job Description
An independent oilfield services company is seeking an HSE Trainee to support health, safety, and environmental programs across operations. The ideal candidate is a proactive and hands-on individual with a strong interest in workplace safety and compliance. Working under the direction of the HSE Manager, the new hire will promote a safe work environment by assisting with inspections and compliance activities while supporting documentation, training coordination, and continuous improvement of HSE practices.
Salary: $25-28/hr
Location: Houston, TX 77092
Type of Position: Temp-to-Hire
Hours: 1st shift, M-F 6:00am-2:30pm
Responsibilities:Â
•   Perform routine inspections of fire extinguishers, safety showers, eyewash stations, and other emergency equipment to ensure proper condition and compliance.Â
•   Inspect and maintain HSE supplies, including spill kits, first aid kits, and personal protective equipment (PPE).Â
•   Assist with monitoring and maintaining chemical and waste storage areas in accordance with company procedures.Â
•   Support housekeeping and organization of shop areas to promote safe work conditions.Â
•   Assist with scheduled workplace inspections and follow up on identified issues.Â
•   Report unsafe conditions, near misses, or hazards to the HSE Manager.Â
•   Support basic environmental compliance activities, including waste labeling and storage checks.Â
•   Assist with equipment inspection tracking (forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.) to ensure inspections are completed.Â
•   Help maintain inspection logs, checklists, and HSE documentation.Â
•   Assist with new hire safety orientation and basic training coordination.Â
•   Participate in incident investigations by gathering information and supporting documentation.Â
•   Work with HSE team members and employees to reinforce safe work practices.Â
•   Perform other HSE-related duties as assigned by the HSE Manager.
Requirements:
•   1 yr experience preferred, willing to learn, hands on
•   Some college coursework towards a degree in HSE, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred; or 1-3 years of related experience in an industrial, warehouse, or shop environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
•   Basic understanding of workplace safety practices and hazard awareness. Willingness to learn HSE regulations, procedures, and inspection processes. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with employees, contractors, and management. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Basic to intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Familiarity with computer systems, networks, and email.
•   Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Candidate must have the ability to write routine correspondence and to communicate effectively before groups of employees.
•   Skills should include ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
•   Basic skills must include ability to solve practical problems and manage a variety of tasks in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
