Financial Reporting Accountant

Job Description
Salary + Additional Benefits:
- $70,000-$85,000
- Hybrid - Work onsite 50% of the time, days are flexible
Location:Â Houston, TX
Type of Position: Direct Hire
Responsibilities:
- Prepare schedules for SEC filings, including Form 10-Qs, 10-Ks and other various reports.
- Prepare and manage financial reports using Workiva and performs XBRL tagging for financial statements and disclosures.
- Prepare and coordinate investor relations activities including SEC filings and press releases for periodic earnings announcements, presentation materials for investor relations events, board/committee meetings, and other tasks as needed.
- Prepare supplemental reconciliation and schedules for internal financial reporting package.
- Document and ensure recording of appropriate accounting treatment for all items impacting financial statements and SEC reporting and compliance issues and communicates to management.
- Perform variance analysis within the financial statements utilizing analytical and research skills, reporting tools, and collaboration with outside departments.
- Analyze supporting documentation received from accounting and other departments to determine accuracy and completeness.
- Ascertain that transactions are properly supported and classified in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Assist with complex and special assignments or project with the team or manager. Applies experience and knowledge of industry, company, policies, and regulations to resolve or recommend solutions. Discusses escalated issue recommendations with manager.
- Self-manage workload-negotiating deadlines to meet expectations.
- Take the initiative to discuss assignments, expectations, priorities, and deadlines, as well as seeks guidance and coaching from manager.
- Adjust quickly to new work structures, shifts in priorities, processes, requirements, or cultures.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- At least two (2) years of Financial Reporting work experience accurately preparing various filings
- Demonstrates knowledge and application of regulations and GAAP
- Familiar with technical accounting including SEC reporting requirements and FASB standards
- Cognitive ability including reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend ideas, learn quickly, learn from experience, and appropriately apply learning to new situations
- Process and results oriented, motivated to keep projects moving ahead by removing obstacles and exploring alternatives
- Applies best practices in documenting business requirements in an iterative way, particularly using agile methodologies
- Ability to create clear reports and data visualizations to assist in decision-making and problem analysis
- Must be self-motivated and a team player. Must have a positive attitude, and a drive to continually advance your understanding of the industry and business
- Ability to build professional and trusting business relations as well as interact and collaborate with all levels of department management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
- Proficient MS Office and MS Excel
- Experience with Workiva and XBRL tagging preferred
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends during quarter end periods
