Job Description
A leading petroleum distribution company is seeking a Financial Controller to oversee accounting operations and provide strategic financial leadership during a period of rapid global expansion. The ideal candidate is an experienced finance professional with deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, international accounting standards, and fuel distribution accounting practices.
Working cross-functionally, the new leader will ensure accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance by strengthening internal controls, optimizing systems, and providing strategic insights to support growth initiatives while guiding teams through organizational change.

Type of Position: Direct Hire
Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation and analysis of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Prepare consolidated financial statements for the company and its subsidiaries, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and reporting requirements, including emerging international standards.
- Coordinate and manage annual audits with external auditors.
- Direct all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, revenue recognition, and billing.
- Oversee the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Develop and implement accounting procedures and systems to support company growth and operational efficiency.
- Partner with the CEO to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making and business development.
- Evaluate and improve accounting processes to ensure GAAP compliance and strengthen internal controls.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
- Analyze financial results and provide actionable recommendations to management.
- Support the development and implementation of international accounting operations as the company expands.
- Manage international tax planning and compliance, including transfer pricing and VAT.
- Develop strategies to mitigate currency exchange rate risks and manage foreign currency exposures.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, including credit, operational, and compliance risks.
- Ensure proper safeguarding of company assets.
- Establish and maintain strong internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Prior experience in the fuel/gas distribution industry strongly preferred
- Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls required
- Strong understanding of fuel accounting principles and systems
- Experience with NetSuite strongly preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage change in a growing organization
