Job Description
A well-established internet and voice service provider is looking for a Fiber Splicer to prepare cable, splice, and test fiber cable. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter with knowledge of basic electronics, specification sheets, and circuit diagrams. Working cross-functionally, the new engineer will increase business efficiency by effectively performing job functions while ensuring quality customer service and compliance with company policies & procedures.

Location: La Grange, TX

Responsibilities:
- Splice fiber cables and cut terminals for new construction. Maintain and repair new cable plant and fiber optic lines by opening and terminating fibers.
- Maintain cable system by testing to locate trouble, opening cable to repair or replace defective sections, and closing and sealing cable.
- Identify counts and prepare for splicing as directed by engineering document.
- Transfer customers’ service from one cable and/or terminal to another by reworking cut sheets and assigning counts.
- Willing to work overtime and schedule night cuts and outage restorations; on-call rotation.
- Climb ladder and other structures as needed; use bucket truck when required; lift and carry loads of at least 50 lbs.
- Participate in continuing education as required to improve job function.
- Promote a positive and professional image of the company to customers, co-workers, contractors, management, and others.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One to two years of telecommunications schooling or equivalent work experience
- One to two years of experience in the installation and maintenance of telecommunications equipment
- Minimum one year of specific experience in splicing fiber cable
- Must be able to discern colors
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word & Excel)
- Knowledge of basic electronics, specification sheets, and circuit diagrams
- Knowledge of telecommunications plant equipment operations and maintenance
- Knowledge of local exchange distribution network facilities
- Knowledge of telecommunication construction and cable installation practices and procedures
- Knowledge of voice communications and digital technology
- Knowledge of company products and services
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures
- Knowledge of fiber color codes
- Familiar with OTDR and fiber testing
- Skill in reading cable schematics, fiber count reports, and verification reports
- Skill in operating service equipment, including various hand tools and testing equipment
- Ability to communicate with co-workers, customers, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals
- Ability to pay close attention to detail
- Ability to evaluate, test, and repair sophisticated equipment
- Ability to improve or redesign procedures for specific installation/repair problems
- Ability to troubleshoot and make sound technical decisions using information at hand
- Ability to effectively function as a team player
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to work independently and maintain high degree of organization
- Ability to create and maintain a clean and well-organized finished product in terminating fiber in office, at customer location, or in splice closure in the field
