Job Description

A well-established independent oilfield services company is looking for a highly skilled Elastomer Machinist responsible for the setup and operation of manual machinery, focusing on lathe and mill machines. The ideal candidate has technical expertise in machining processes and familiarity with the manufacturing environment. Working collaboratively with the team, the new member will contribute to the company’s overall success by ensuring accurate and efficient production while consistently meeting quality and safety standards.

Location: Houston, TX 77092
Type of Position: Temp-to-Hire

Responsibilities: 
  • Review blueprints, drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of part/product, sequence of operations, and/or set up requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and otherwise indicate the dimensions and reference points on the part or material to be used as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure the holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines to include mills, lathes, and grinders.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate various machining factors such as speed, feed, and depth, and angle of cut.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect any malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust the machine controls or control media as necessary.
  • Verify conformance of finished part to ensure that it meets specifications.
  • Confer with production personnel, engineers, or others to resolve machining or assembly issues.
  • Perform daily maintenance duties and/or notify supervisor of any equipment-related issues that may require attention.
  • Use measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements, i.e., Pi Tape, Calipers.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area.

Requirements:
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school or minimum of five years related experience and/or training
  • Turning rubber, not metal (will be trained on this machine, it’s a niche)
  • Lathe machinist background (manual lathe) is a plus
  • Ability to work under a minimum of supervision in a manufacturing environment
  • Basic to intermediate skills in MS Office products to include Word, Excel, ERP, and MRP systems
  • Familiarity with computer networks and e-mail
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write and/or complete routine reports
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as angles, lengths, diameters in decimals and fractions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
