A worldwide leader in the manufacturing and distribution of critical application fittings, flanges, valves, pipe, and related products is looking for a Director of Logistics to manage the daily operations related to the tactical importation of steel products into the United States and Canada. The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking leader who knows logistics technology & best practices. Working collaboratively, the new director will drive operational excellence by increasing productivity & cost-efficiency through effective leadership, continuing education, and skills development in compliance with company policies & procedures.

Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain processes for the tactical management of import freight across all transportation modes.
- Ensure consistently comprehensive visibility of all containerized shipments against both FOB and DDP incoterms.
- Lead import logistics personnel and coordinate with in-house trade compliance and outbound logistics teams.
- Manage relationships with ocean carrier, freight forwarding, drayage, flatbed, and warehousing vendors.
- Negotiate import freight procurement initiatives with support from the Vice President of Logistics.
- Oversee both the pre-receiver creation process and the verification process for pre-receivers created automatically.
- Create, refine, and maintain all import-focused metrics.
- Build internal KPIs focused on improving our customer experience (for both external and internal customers).
- Establish efficient communication channels and protocols to reduce reliance on e-mail, improve access to self-serve information, and establish cross-departmental accountability.
- Coordinate with Purchasing to help suppliers align with our logistics goals, including, but not limited to, using forwarder-provided platforms for booking requests, ensuring complete and accurate documentation packs are uploaded to our vendor portal, and consulting on container load plans/cargo weight optimization.
- Develop and track adherence to end-to-end SOPs guiding the tactical execution of import logistics across all stakeholders.
- Collaborate with our in-house developers and IT team on an ongoing basis to continue to build out visibility and functionality in our ERP platform.
- Manage the invoice approval process with A/P and implement summary invoicing solutions where possible.
- Create and manage the updates to, and distribution of, our import routing guide.
- Plan and lead quarterly business reviews with core logistics vendors.
Requirements:
- Degree in Business or Transportation/Logistics Management
- BS in Business Administration, Logistics or Supply Chain preferred
- 8+ years of experience in logistics with preference in containerized and breakbulk imports, freight forwarding, drayage, and trucking
- Experience with an ERP required
- Advanced analytical and Excel skills required
- Ability to travel up to 15% (mainly domestic)
- Proven ability to effectively manage a remote team and ensure all daily tasks are completed to execution
- Strong, confident partner to internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to follow standard operation procedures with little to no oversight
- Reliable and willing to learn
- Ability to analyze, identify, understand, and communicate issues before helping to create best-fit solutions
- Superior attention to detail
- Positive attitude, self-motivated, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
