Job Description

A renowned, independent school is looking for a Director of Human Resources to strategize, coordinate, and oversee its Human Resources operations and activities. The ideal candidate embodies forward-thinking leadership and demonstrates comprehensive understanding, interpretation, and compliance with federal & state laws and institutional policies & procedures concerning human resource management and foundational human relations principles & practices.

Location: Houston, TX 77002 - Hybrid
Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Administer HR programs, including, classification and compensation, benefits, and leave, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, productivity, recognition, engagement and morale, occupational health and safety, and training and development.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define the long-term mission and goals and identify ways to support the mission through talent management, succession planning, workforce development, and inclusion strategies.
  • Coach and counsel management in developing themselves and their teams.
  • Manage the disciplinary process and maintain impartiality.
  • Manage and ensure the integrity of the HRIS. Manage the creation, maintenance, generation, and distribution of departmental and organizational reports.
  • Direct and oversee complex biweekly payroll functions.
  • Optimize HR systems to align with organizational priorities. Improve the reporting and data analytics and guide on continuous improvement.  
  • Develop, implement, and manage departmental budget.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices; review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance. Partner with the General Counsel to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management; department leaders prioritize the training and development of their staff.
  • Comply with all aspects of the school’s Customer Service Standards.
  • Directly supervise at least three employees.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA strongly preferred.
  • Human resources certification (SPHR or SHRM-CP) required.
  • Ten (10)+ years of directly related HR Management experience required.
  • Five (5)+ years of experience leading a team required.
  • Higher Education or Non-Profit HR management experience required.
  • Experience and proficiency with an Oracle-based HRIS required, banner experience highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge, interpretation, and compliance with federal, state laws, policies/procedures
