Job Description

A multinational company specializing in turnkey engineering, procurement, construction, and installation services is seeking a Combo Fitter to assemble and align pipe and structural components according to blueprints and specifications. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with expertise in precise fitting techniques and a strong understanding of industry standards. Working collaboratively, the successful candidate will ensure project accuracy by preparing components for welding, maintaining proper alignment, and adhering to safety and quality requirements while meeting project deadlines efficiently.

Location: Houston, TX
Type of Position: Temp-to-Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Fitting and Assembly: Fit and assemble pipe and structural components based on blueprints, drawings, and project specifications. Ensure precise alignment and secure fitting to prepare for welding.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings and project specifications to understand the requirements for each job and ensure the correct alignment and fit of materials.
  • Tool and Equipment Usage: Operate and maintain hand tools and equipment such as pipe benders, cutters, and threading machines. Ensure all tools and machinery are in proper working condition.
  • Measure and Cut Materials: Accurately measure and cut pipe, steel, and other materials to meet project requirements. Ensure the materials are sized and shaped correctly for assembly.
  • Component Preparation: Prepare metal parts for welding by cleaning, grinding, and preheating, as needed. Ensure all components are ready for secure welding.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to company safety standards.
  • Collaboration with Welders: Work closely with welders and other trades to ensure proper alignment and fitting before welding processes begin. Provide support as necessary to ensure the project progresses smoothly.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all work meets or exceeds quality standards. Inspect completed fittings for alignment, accuracy, and safety.
  • Material Management: Manage and organize materials, ensuring proper storage and handling of components and tools throughout the job.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve fitting-related issues or challenges that may arise during the assembly or fitting process, ensuring project timelines and specifications are met.

Requirements:
  • Proven experience in fitting and assembling pipe and structural components, preferably in a combination welding/fitting role
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols. Strong understanding of fitting techniques and tool usage
  • Ability to legally work in the U.S. and travel internationally
  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow safety and work instructions in English
  • Must be open to working offshore when necessary
  • Ability to work varied schedules (some weeks may be 84 hours, others 40 hours, depending on workload)
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, lifting, and standing for long periods
