Job Description

A fast-growing manufacturing company is seeking a Chemist to conduct chemical, physical, and performance testing on raw materials and finished products. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced in polymer chemistry and composite materials. With strong communication skills, the new team member will drive operational excellence by ensuring material compliance, improving quality control processes, and supporting performance testing while maintaining industry standards and fostering cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities:
  • Raw Material Testing & Qualification:
  • Conduct analytical and physical testing on resins, fibers, fillers, catalysts, and other raw materials used in FRPM pipe production.
  • Utilize analytical techniques such as viscometry, titration, and rheology, as well as other instrumental analysis to assess material properties and quality.
  • Approve and qualify raw materials based on ASTM, ISO, and internal specifications before production use.
  • Assist in resolving raw material quality issues and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Performance Testing & Quality Assurance:
  • Perform mechanical and physical performance testing on cured materials and finished pipes, including flexural strength, tensile strength, chemical resistance testing.
  • Ensure raw materials and finished products meet industry performance requirements and withstand environmental, chemical, and mechanical stresses.
  • Analyze test results, generate reports, and communicate findings to production, engineering, and quality teams.
  • Investigate out of specification (OOS) materials and product failures, identify root causes, and recommend process improvements.
  • Laboratory & Compliance Management:
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable testing.
  • Adhere to regulations related to chemical handling, testing, and waste disposal.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in quality control and performance testing.

    Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry
    • 1-2+ years in raw material testing, performance testing, or quality control within a composite, or polymer manufacturing environment
    • Bilingual in Spanish and English with fluent proficiency required (both written and spoken)
    • Candidates with significant, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement
    • Experience with polymer chemistry, thermosetting resins, and curing processes
    • Familiarity with mechanical testing equipment (universal test machines)
    • Strong knowledge of ASTM, ISO, and industry-specific standards for composite materials
    • Strong communication skills in both languages required to effectively engage with diverse teams
    • Problem Solving: Ability to analyze test results, investigate material failures, and recommend corrective actions
    • Attention to Detail: Ability to detect subtle variation in material properties and performance
    • Communication: Strong reporting and collaboration skills with production, R&D, and other teams
    • Safety Awareness: Strong adherence to chemical and mechanical safety protocols
    • Operates in an office and lab setting
    • May involve working with tight deadlines and managing multiple priorities
    • Thrive in an intense, do-it-yourself, manufacturing environment
    • Ability to work well within a cross-functional team environment and diverse communities
