Job Description

A leading HVACR wholesale distributor of equipment, parts, and supplies is looking for a Business Development Manager responsible for contributing to company growth and profitability by growing new and existing customer sales in an assigned geographical territory or customer segment. The ideal candidate is an excellent negotiator with in-depth knowledge of direct sales principles & methods. Reporting directly to the Outside Sales Manager, the new BDM will drive sustainable sales growth by applying effective sales strategies and techniques focused on financial gain & customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage existing and prospective customer accounts to grow sales and profitability and prospect for new customers through quality leads.
  • Engage with customers through sales calls and visits, trade association meetings, dealer meetings, industry events, open houses, and other meetings as required by the customer or the company.
  • Provide pre- and post- sales support to customers to proactively manage problems.
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with key players and decision-makers in customer organizations.
  • Work with customers to plan and forecast sales and participate with management in updating plans, forecasts, and setting sales goals.
  • Compile data into actionable information and make recommendations to Sales Manager and Leadership based on same.
  • Maintain industry, business, wholesale, sales process, and HVAC/R technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Manage activity and customer information through the Company’s current CRM software.
  • Provide a consultative approach to sales by proposing product and service programs that are linked to customer needs while maintaining profitability metrics and articulating the value of programs and services in terms of resolving customer needs and problems.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge base of customers in the territory through research to understand customer revenue potential, creditworthiness, business focus and operations, current supplier and manufacturer relationships, and other information pertinent to determining customer fit.
  • Categorize and prioritize accounts to allocate time to the highest priorities for growth and profitability.
  • Monitor market conditions, product innovations, and competitors’ products, prices, and sales to inform selling strategy.
  • Maintain knowledge of new and existing products and inventory by participating in training, studying the company and industry catalogs and websites and seeking knowledge from sales manager and other knowledgeable sources.
  • Serve as a representative of the company at trade association meetings, industry events, open houses, or other events at the company’s or customer’s request.
  • Train, mentor, and lead coworkers.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.
  • Represent the company at trade associations, events, and local meetings.
  • Keep the company’s best interest in mind at all times.
  • Consistently work to promote company growth while maintaining ethical standards.
  • Maintain a professional personal appearance.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma / GED required OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 2 years of documented successful direct sales experience
  • 5 or more years of successful direct sales experience preferred
  • Direct sales experience in the business-to-business HVAC/R or similar industry preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Demonstrated tenacity in achieving sales goals
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of effective sales strategies and techniques
  • Skilled in building long term customer relationships
  • Able to maintain a positive and friendly demeanor with coworkers and customers
  • Skilled in proactive communication (both verbal and written) to establish relationships and influence decisions
  • Excellent negotiation and objection countering skills
  • Skilled in using critical thought to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
  • Strong project management and multi-tasking skills
  • Knowledge of principles and methods of selling products and services
  • Able to use Microsoft Office and CRM software to manage activities and customer information
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, hardworking, professional, and accountable
  • Demonstrated resilience despite setbacks
  • Able to identify and use resources to maintain industry, business, wholesale, sales process, and HVAC/R technical knowledge and expertise
