A world market leader in explosion protection is looking for a results-oriented Business Development Manager responsible for growth and expansion, providing excellent customer service. The ideal candidate is a customer-focused sales expert committed to excellence and development. Reporting directly to the Sales Director, the new BDM will drive sustainable sales growth by developing business development strategies focused on financial gain & customer satisfaction while promoting positive culture, collaboration, and a high-performance work environment.

Location: Houston, TX
Type of Position: Direct Hire

  • Maintain Customer Relationship Management tool (CRM) with accurate sales opportunity/funnel tracking and use available information to leverage customer for all sales activities and opportunities.
  • Establish relationships within customer organizations to maintain an awareness of upcoming capital projects and maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) requirements to identify applications for company’s product line.
  • Identify and target key decision makers to develop relationships at appropriate and varied levels across customer groups and organizations, including but not limited to the following:
    • End user engineers and engineering managers
    • End user field level, district or regional supervisors or managers
    • End user Operations supervisors and managers
    • Engineering consulting firms and EPCM organizations, as applicable
    • Gas plants, refineries, upgraders and petrochemical processing plants
    • Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)
    • Industrial and Commercial distributors
    • Procurement staff for all of the above
  • Assist in estimating, quoting, preparation of bids and proposals, with a focus on setting competitive strategies and pricing on major projects.
  • Maintain ethical business practices.
  • Negotiate sales agreements / orders.
  • Plan and work industry trade shows.
  • Provide technical expertise on company’s product line and applications.
  • Provide technical expertise to determine feasible and cost-effective solutions.
  • Promote customer-focus by executing a winning cross-selling strategy
  • Manage assigned expense budgets.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience as a Sales Engineer, Sales Account Manager, or Industrial product outside sales, preferably selling trace heating systems
  • Experience dealing with Refining and Petrochemical projects and plants, construction is a plus
  • Experience with CRM is a plus (especially Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Proven track record of territory growth, with local plant, contractor, and EPC contacts preferred
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to + 50% of the time
  • Ability to work autonomously and drive results with minimal direct supervision; self-driven and motivated
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to establish and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Superior teamwork and leadership skills across a multi-faceted organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Outgoing, friendly, enthusiastic, and sociable
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Must be comfortable giving and participating in customer training presentations
  • Strong sales track record
  • "Hunter" sales mentality - ability to help develop a territory from scratch
