Job Description

A fast-growing freight forwarding company is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations and ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and strategic leader with strong accounting expertise and team management skills. Working cross-functionally, the new leader will enhance operational efficiency by supervising accounting staff, maintaining financial records, and streamlining processes while supporting audits, reporting, and departmental improvements.

Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise Daily Accounting Operations: Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and month-end closing processes.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead and manage the accounting team, providing training, support, and fostering team development.
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance: Oversee the preparation of weekly, monthly, and annual financial reports, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal policies and GAAP. Conduct internal audits of financial operations and cash management processes.
  • External Collaboration & Problem Resolution: Collaborate with external parties, including third-party providers, regulatory agencies, financial institutions, and participate in problem-solving with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Payroll & Tax Management: Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, tax deductions, property tax returns, and financial records.
  • Confidentiality & Security: Safeguard the confidentiality of financial information and ensure compliance with security protocols.
  • Credit & Collections Management: Oversee credit applications, collections, customer accounts, and the credit approval process in line with company policies.
  • Cash Flow & Financial Record Management: Closely monitor cash flow, generate reporting tools for forecasting, and maintain accurate financial records, including check registers, fixed assets, and accounts receivable.
  • Controller Support & Process Improvement: Directly report to the Controller, assisting with additional duties as needed, and recommending improvements to accounting practices and procedures.
  • Employee Evaluations & Performance Management: Perform employee evaluations for accounting staff and manage team performance to ensure efficiency and growth.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in full-cycle accounting, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Experience in cash flow management, accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and budget preparation
  • Preferred: 7+ years of experience and proficiency with ERP systems, preferably NetSuite
  • Strong analytical and mathematical abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with corporate automated reporting systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to work at a desk for extended periods and successfully operate in an office setting, moving throughout the environment and communicating effectively both in person and electronically
  • Proficient use of office equipment, including documents and file management, proper computer handling, and familiarity with programs such as Microsoft 360
  • Adequate vision and manual dexterity for document reading, data entry, and processing financial records, as well as the ability to perform complex arithmetic calculations and prepare detailed analytical financial reports
  • Fluency in presenting ideas and technical information, and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at various levels, including customers, vendors, lenders, regulatory agencies, management, and internal personnel
