Job Description

A leading company is seeking a Bilingual Controller to lead and strengthen the organization’s financial operations and ensure accurate, compliant, and timely reporting. The ideal candidate is a bilingual accounting leader with experience in both U.S. GAAP and Mexican regulatory environments. Working cross-functionally, the new leader will optimize financial systems and reporting accuracy by implementing best practices and overseeing audits while ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting strategic decision-making across departments.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee monthly general ledger closing process including approval of journal entries and account balance reconciliations.
  • Manage the monthly financial close process, ensuring all expenses incurred are properly recorded.
  • Oversee timely financial reporting packages for review by the President and/or the Vice President of Finance
  • Review and approve the payroll entries for the personnel in the United States and the outsourced personnel employed in Mexico, ensuring compliance with country regulations such as social security, infonavit, payroll taxes and other local fees.
  • Responsible for the chart of accounts, accuracy in the general ledger and has ultimate authority over classification and booking of all transactions.
  • Oversee the accounts payable process for multiple locations in Mexico.
  • Lead regular meetings with personnel in Mexico responsible of the receipt of goods and services, buyers, operations managers, treasury personnel and other related areas to review the payables status and define an action plan on how to correct the issues on outstanding items.
  • Review weekly payables reports and report potential risks to upper management.
  • Collaborate with management in preparation of the annual budget and financial forecasts.
  • Prepare timely, efficient, and accurate actual vs. budget analysis.
  • Prepare semiannual and annual reports and submit them for approval to the Vice President of Finance before submission to the Board of Directors, to inform the financial results of the company and other important financial matters.
  • Control & search for constant optimization of the expenditures.
  • Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the review and implementation of process and system changes.
  • Responsible for supervising and directing the activities of departmental staff and conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Continued focus on improving system efficiencies and business practices.
  • Ensure compliance with internal control policies.
  • Analyze the effect of statutory accounting practices and studies regulations and guidance to ensure correct application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Collaborate with external auditors in the preparation of the annual financial statements and the disclosures described in the notes, to ensure successful audit results and compliance.
  • Assist with compilation of information for preparation of tax returns, transfer pricing study, franchise, and property tax reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with 1099 annual requirements.
  • Participate in the company’s benefit evaluations and 401K representations.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or foreign equivalent
  • Six years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles
  • At least three years of experience dealing with Social Security, tax authorities and legal matters in Mexico
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
  • Honesty, trustworthiness, integrity, and dependability
  • Computer Skills – Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Pivot tables, filters, macros, and formulas)
  • ERPs – SAP, Microsoft Dynamics GP
  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, internal, external and government auditors
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals
