Job Description

A well-established stud welding equipment & accessory supplier is looking for a Shipping & Receiving Clerk to oversee all inbound and outbound products and maintain warehouse space for product storage. The ideal candidate is an exceptionally organized, adept communicator familiar with logistics methodologies and industry standards and knows the safe storage and transport of hazardous materials. Collaborating with the team, the new member will enhance business operations by ensuring the safety, security, and regulatory compliance of product shipments.

Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Keep and verify accurate records on all incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Prepare and examine outgoing shipments, make sure they conform with paperwork/specifications.
  • Determine method of shipment by utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, rates, and routes.
  • Place items into containers using fillers, spacers, and protective padding.
  • Attach shipping instructions and identifying information onto all outwards goods.
  • Post shipping charges and weights, and affix postage, enter into computer system along with tracking numbers.
  • Promptly inspect and unload incoming shipments, observe, and document shortages, refuse bad items, and inform the shipper to replace damaged items and correct shortages.
  • Inform colleagues in sales immediately, when necessary, of the arrival of goods.
  • Maintain inventory of shipping materials as well as supplies.
  • May receive defective or damaged goods returned; process and ensure expeditious processing to support customer.
  • Use dollies, forklifts, and other moving equipment to transport shipments from loading dock and around warehouse.
  • Ensure that the warehouse is clean and organized.
  • Process transfers for shipments moving to another location.
  • Manage and maintain all shipment billing records.
  • Conduct inventory of products and log data into inventory database. Discrepancies are to be eliminated.
  • Mark all locations where the product is kept so it can be found quickly.
  • Contact vendors to inquire about shipment delays or problems.
  • Report any major or unresolved shipment delays or problems to CEO.
  • Address and answer internal inquiries about pending orders and shipments.
  • Collaborate and communicate with all staff involved in the shipment and receipt of products.
  • Track, trace, and update status of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Engage with vendors and drivers with a positive attitude.
  • Provide additional backup support where required when necessary.
  • Efficient utilization of warehouse space for product/stock
  • Negotiate with freight companies to get the best service to price ratio, based on cost/benefit basis measurement.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Job training session required prior to start date
  • Minimum of 3 years logistics experience (preferably with fasteners)
  • Forklift Certification
  • Familiarity with Radio Frequency (RF) equipment is preferred
  • Current driver’s license
  • Ability to use various ERP/CRM software
  • Experience with the Microsoft suite of products and SAGE 50
  • Knowledge and understanding of dangerous/hazardous goods storage and transportation
  • General knowledge of international shipping requirements
  • Ability to interpret packing slips and acknowledge receipt of goods, enter all data into ERP system, process packing lists (sales orders)
  • Ability to fill out bills of lading
  • Familiarity with various forms used by freight carriers
  • Must be able to estimate weight, and use the information to calculate the cost of shipping
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills
  • Pay close attention to detail
  • Possess physical strength necessary to lift and move heavy boxes received by the warehouse
  • Exhibit ability to use inventory software efficiently
  • Possess basic math skills
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
  • Handle discrepancies or shipping problems calmly and politely
  • Exhibit familiarity with shipping and billing procedures
  • Demonstrate solid problem-solving skills
  • Capable of operating forklifts and other equipment to move heavy shipments
  • Demonstrate awareness of proper warehouse and factory safety procedures
  • Scanning and sorting incoming and outgoing stock
  • Receiving, stocking, and stacking
  • Pulling, packing, and loading
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; communicate clearly and effectively
  • Strong sense of time organization and urgency; manage time efficiently
  • Able to work independently and within a team
  • Work Environment
  • Time will be spent in a warehouse, loading dock receiving and transporting deliveries
  • Time will also be spent in a shipping and receiving area processing inventory and paperwork
  • Moderate to heavy physical labor such as lifting and moving heavy items is required on a regular basis
  • Temperature in the warehouse or dock varies according to external climate
  • Standard 40-hour workweek applies
