Job Description
A fast-growing manufacturing company is seeking an Operations Manager to join the team. This role serves as the single owner of shop-floor execution, accountable for getting parts out the door on time, at the right cost, and to specification. The Operations Manager is responsible for the production schedule, quality and cost performance, and leading the production team and supervisors.
Salary + Additional Benefits:
- $125,000-$140,000
- 15% Annual Bonus (management-discretionary, based on business performance)
- Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance
- 401K - company match
Location: Houston, TX
Type of Position: Direct Hire
Responsibilities:
- Own the production schedule and the daily/weekly flow of work across machining, repair, and contract jobs. Sequence work to hit promise dates.
- Run a daily management rhythm (gemba walk, Lean daily management boards) that surfaces problems early -- before they become missed shipments. Break bottlenecks and balance load across machines, cells, and shifts.
- Own in-house quoting/estimating for intercompany and external RFQs from prints and specs. Apply value-based pricing to maximize margin. Turn quotes fast (target 24 hr) and follow up to convert.
- Hold the shop to its quality system and customer/industry requirements (ISO, API). Drive down scrap and rework. Lead root-cause and corrective action on failures and misses.
- Own a safe shop: enforce safety procedures and 5S, keep the floor compliant with applicable EHS requirements.
- Manage labor and machine capacity to demand. Control operating cost (scrap, rework, overtime, consumables, tooling, outside process) against budget. Build the data-backed case for capital and tooling.
- Lead, schedule, and develop the production team and supervisors/leads. Cross-train to eliminate key-person dependencies. Lead by the company values -- Safety, Integrity, Respect & Value for People, Collaboration, Customer Led, Bias for Action.
- Document standard work, routings, and setups. Use the ERP/MRP system to run and measure the shop and improve data accuracy. Support standardization across the company.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of operations / production / shop-floor leadership in a machine shop or precision-machining / metalworking environment, including direct people management
- Working knowledge of CNC machining (mills/lathes), setups, tolerances, and shop routings; can walk the floor and talk the work credibly with machinists
- Experience quoting and estimating machining or repair work from prints and specifications
- Demonstrated ownership of throughput, on-time delivery, and cost in a job-shop or mixed-volume environment
- Hands-on with an ERP/MRP (Global Shop) system for scheduling, routings, and shop reporting; works from data, not gut feel
- Track record of documenting process and standardizing work; working knowledge of quality systems and shop safety
- Bearings, wear materials, or repair/remanufacturing (babbitting, grinding) for rotating or reciprocating equipment (preferred)
- Petrochemical and/or oil & gas customers and their quality requirements (ISO 9001, API, or customer/OEM approvals) (preferred)
- Lean / continuous-improvement experience (5S, daily shop-floor management, standard work) (preferred)
- Associate's or Bachelor's in a technical, manufacturing, or business field -- or equivalent shop-floor experience (preferred)
Due to the high volume of applications we typically receive, we regret that we are not able to personally respond to all applications. However, if you are invited to take the next step in the process, you will typically be contacted within one week of submitting your application.
