Job Description

A well-established Houston-area design and fabrication company is seeking a Quality Control Inspector to join the team. This is a temp-to-hire, on-site role supporting the Quality department on 2nd shift. The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for performing dimensional and visual welding inspections of in-process work and finished products to determine compliance with approved drawings, codes, and quality standards.

Salary + Additional Benefits:

  • $23-26/hr + 2nd shift differential
  • Shift Hours: 2nd shift, 2:00 PM-10:30 PM (M-F; some Saturdays); initial training on day shift until ready

Type of Position: Temp-to-Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Perform dimensional and visual welding inspections of in-process work and finished products for compliance with approved drawings and codes.
  • Inspect incoming materials including structural steel shapes, pipe, and plate for proper identification, including material specs, grade, heat number, and size.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with approved drawings and Welding Procedure Specifications.
  • Read blueprints, plans, and specifications to understand product and service requirements.
  • Be proficient in the use of hand measuring instruments such as calipers, tapes, micrometers, and welding measuring gauges.
  • Identify, document, and segregate non-conforming items.
  • Under minimal supervision, conduct root cause investigations and support troubleshooting to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Complete required reports and documentation accurately.
  • Work within the established Quality Management System (ISO 9001).
  • Record observations and make recommendations for improving processes.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and guidance to Level I inspectors and other production personnel.
  • Resolve quality-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all safety-related issues are reported to the immediate supervisor and HSE.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3-6 years of experience in a quality control position within a manufacturing or production environment
  • Experience with structural steel and dimensional inspection required
  • Experience working in ISO or regulated manufacturing environments
  • Strong understanding of quality control standards and testing techniques
  • Familiarity with weld inspection tools
  • Basic math skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills
  • Proactive, results-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with electrical or electromechanical assemblies a plus
  • Experience with ERP systems a plus
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
