Job Description

A well-established infrastructure solutions company is seeking a Tax Associate to join the team. This role supports tax compliance, audits, reporting, and planning activities across federal, state, and local jurisdictions in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment. The Tax Associate is responsible for ensuring accurate tax reporting, maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, and supporting the company's overall tax strategy.

 Type of Position: Direct Hire

Responsibilities:
  • Review and assist in the preparation of federal and state income tax filings in coordination with internal accounting teams.
  • Oversee property tax processes, including evaluations, protests, and timely payment management.
  • Perform monthly tax account reconciliations and ensure accuracy of tax-related balances.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of data within tax software systems, including Avalara.
  • Collect, track, and maintain exemption certificates and supporting tax documentation.
  • Manage business registrations and licensing requirements with applicable taxing authorities.
  • Manage and coordinate state and local sales and use tax audits.
  • Respond to notices, audits, and inquiries from federal, state, and local taxing authorities.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and documentation related to tax processes.
  • Partner with Human Resources to support payroll tax compliance efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Research federal, state, and local tax issues related to operations, audit matters, and acquisition activity.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation, evaluate impact, and communicate findings to leadership.
  • Identify tax savings opportunities and assist with implementation across business units.
  • Lead tax-related transactions, special projects, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver internal training related to sales, use, and excise taxes.
  • Support continuous improvement of tax reporting processes and operational efficiency.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required
  • 3-7+ years of progressive experience in tax, including income, sales/use, property, and transaction tax
  • Tax consulting experience and exposure to the oil & gas industry strongly preferred
  • Multi-location, multi-entity understanding strongly preferred  
  • Strong knowledge of transaction tax concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and tax/accounting software systems
