Job Description
A global leader in the trading & distribution industry is seeking a Credit Analyst to join the team. The Credit Analyst is responsible for managing credit-related activities for assigned products and regions, supporting risk assessment and decision-making, and maintaining the health of a credit portfolio across a diverse global customer base.
The ideal candidate is a resourceful and proactive credit professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. This individual is comfortable making independent decisions, building relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, and taking ownership of a portfolio while balancing risk and business objectives. Responsibilities:
- Manage credit-related activities for assigned products and regions across North America.
- Review and approve customer orders within established credit authority limits while balancing risk management and business objectives.
- Assess and evaluate current and new business opportunities through financial analysis, credit reviews, and risk assessments.
- Analyze customer financial statements, payment trends, industry conditions, and market factors to determine creditworthiness and recommend appropriate credit exposure.
- Provide support to senior management in risk assessment and credit decision-making.
- Partner closely with commercial teams to support business growth while maintaining disciplined credit practices.
- Liaise with traders, customers, and banks to discuss credit matters and resolve issues.
- Communicate directly with customers, including finance leaders and executives, regarding financial performance, credit requirements, collections, and account-related concerns.
- Request and review third-party credit reports, financial references, and supporting documentation.
- Monitor customer payment activity, aging reports, and overall portfolio performance to identify and mitigate potential credit risks.
- Manage collection efforts for assigned accounts and work proactively to resolve payment issues.
- Monitor exposure, release orders, and maintain accountability for the overall performance of an assigned portfolio.
- Analyze and maintain credit limits ranging from small commercial accounts to large multinational organizations.
- Prepare detailed credit analyses, recommendations, and exposure reports for management review.
- Visit customers to assess creditworthiness and strengthen business relationships.
- Participate in customer visits, industry events, and credit conferences as needed.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to credit processes, reporting, and risk management.
- Uphold internal credit policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with company standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field required.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a B2B credit, credit risk, collections, or accounts receivable role.
- Experience within manufacturing, distribution, chemicals, energy, commodities, trading, logistics, or other business-to-business environments required.
- Strong financial statement analysis and credit evaluation experience.
- Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis functions.
- Experience with ERP systems; JD Edwards experience preferred.
- Exposure to credit management platforms such as GetPaid or HighRadius.
- Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Oracle BI is a plus.
- Highly analytical with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to analyze large volumes of information and make sound credit decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable interacting with customers, executives, and senior leadership regarding financial and credit matters.
- Demonstrated ability to remain firm and objective when making credit decisions, even under commercial pressure.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment with high volumes of communication and competing priorities.
- English fluency required; Spanish or Portuguese language skills are a plus.
