Seeking a Technical Service Representative

Salary: $90,000 – $105,000

  • The Technical Service Representative is responsible for understanding market technology trends and the technical development, and ongoing technical support of specific customer powder blends based on existing and new RTMP powder technology to meet technical needs.
  • For agreed target accounts, as specified by the Sales Manager, this individual keeps in close contact with customer product development personnel in order to understand the evolving customer product technical requirements.
  • He/she works co-operatively with his/her customer technical contacts to develop, plant validate and put into serial production new product formulations based on technology to meet the needs of the customer for new part production.
  • This includes liaising with the product development staff to design the optimum product formulation for the customer at a competitive cost for the required part mechanical performance.
  • Attendance at customer plant trials and negotiation of powder formulation technical specification is an integral part of this position.
  • Responsible for responding to customer complaints or enquiries regarding any variation in powder formulation performance (either as a powder or for agreed mechanical performance of the finished part) as well as any packaging issues.
  • This includes obtaining complaint samples, gathering technical background regarding the customer processing, following up with respect to detailed laboratory analyses, and finally responding formally to the customer complaint.
  • Responsible for obtaining competitive marketing intelligence from customers regarding the performance characteristics of competitive products both on the market and in customer tests wherever possible.
  • Develop new customer formulations to increase powder sales volumes and profitability
  • Provide ongoing support of existing customer formulations and respond to specific customer complaints regarding off-spec product or packaging issues
  • Obtain competitive market intelligence on existing and emerging competitive products and provide input for future product development strategies
  • Attend industry conferences and trade shows and provide support to sales representative as appropriate.
  • Travel to different customers


  • A bachelor’s degree in metallurgy (preferably powder metallurgy) or an appropriate engineering designation with substantial practical experience and study course achievement in the PM industry
  • Preferably a minimum of 6–10 years working in a powder metallurgy part making environment with experience in new product formulation development; Or a minimum of 6–10 years working in a powder manufacturing environment with experience or practical understanding of powder metallurgy part making process
  • Strong communication skills and experience in dealing with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders (R&D, production, quality)
  • Leadership and decision-making skills
  • Computer application software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to gather data from inside and outside sources and to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Fluent in English
