Mine Engineer

Position Type: Direct Hire

Responsibilities:

  • Through the use of effective scheduling of equipment and mine engineering practices provide support to the day to day mining operations.
  • Plan and monitor mining sequence and insure all mining activities are planned to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Produce Daily, and Weekly mine plan
  • Review final and interim mine designs for operational effectiveness and safety
  • Schedule the mining of ore and waste generally in accordance with the Monthly forecast but seek opportunities to reduce cost and improve efficiency by finessing haul profiles and dump locations.
  • Mentor and up skill junior mine engineering staff, interns.
  • Monitor the execution of the short-term plan in the field to ensure critical path targets are achieved.
  • Monitor as built progress against design and report variances to the mine operations group 
  • Builds a logical approach to address problems or opportunities or manage the situation at hand by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Allocate daily survey tasks and insure work is organised for maximum efficiency.
  • Ensures mining is planned and implemented to maximize the recovery of ore and minimize mining dilution.
  • Establishes a systematic course of action for self or others to ensure accomplishment of a specific objective. Sets priorities, goals, and timetables to achieve maximum productivity.
  • Develop a sense of continuous improvement, seek to streamline production planning process and minimize the gap between plan and execution.
  • Complies with all safety requirements and observes all company policies and procedures.
  • Carries out all other duties that may reasonably be required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent;
  • 1-5 years of production experience in a hardrock open pit mining environment 
  • Eligibility for membership of a professional body desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with complex problems, including both definition of the problem and generation and evaluation of solutions.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, including goal setting, group performance monitoring and the ability to modify priorities where necessary to achieve these goals.
  • The ability to make a decision from a range of competing options where the outcomes are not entirely predictable.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, and the ability to convince others to co-operate and contribute.
  • Advanced numerical analysis and reasoning skills.
  • Production of a satisfactory security clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.
  • Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
