  • As the Firmware Team Lead, you’ll lead a small firmware engineering team whose efforts are critical for the development of the technical roadmap.
  • In this role you’ll bring your technical expertise and leadership skills to aid the firmware team in the design and sustaining of embedded firmware used in their Measurement While Drilling (MWD) systems.
  • Work closely with project stakeholders and management to collaborate and solve real world problems, conduct root cause analysis and address problems with innovative solutions.
  • This is a supervisory role with a strong element of hands-on firmware engineering.
  • Direct team members to attain project goals and requirements.
  • Develop project requirements and plans from business needs.
  • Lead requirements meetings to produce requirements documents.
  • Assist hardware team with component selections and circuit design.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines to deliver projects and diagnose failures.
  • Mentor firmware engineers.
  • Assist with the evolution of coding standards and quality processes.
  • Keep the group’s project management and version control systems up to date.
  • Understand and design complex algorithms, including DSP.
  • Serve as a firmware liaison assisting in failure analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Manage the release of firmware updates and patches.
  • Maintain legacy code, adding features and carrying out fault diagnostics.
  • Develop and maintain firmware in C for embedded devices, using Code Composer Studio.
  • Write scripts and test code supporting hardware testing and qualification.
  • Assist in the planning of field testing.


  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with Embedded Systems (7+ years desired).
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience leading projects and managing technical teams (3+ years desired).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience scheduling and planning projects.
  • Experience programming embedded microcontrollers using C.
  • Experience with communication protocols: CAN, UART, SPI and I2C.
  • Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) – TI RTOS (BIOS) a plus.
  • Experience with the TI TMS320C28x DSP family is a plus.
  • Previous experience with high-temperature designs is a plus.
  • Downhole oilfield R&D experience.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages is a plus.
