Position: Electrical Controls Engineer

Location: NW Houston, TX

Looking for industrious, creative and sharp talent for a multifaceted role designing and supporting custom systems featuring LV/MV controls, VFD’s, PLC’s and HMI’s. Demonstrable expertise in the conception, design and commissioning of systems that include products from various suppliers such as AB/Rockwell, Siemens, ABB, Eaton, Square-D, Wonderware, NI LabView, etc. is required.


  • Provide control product & systems consultation and training services to clients.
  • Develop new designs and/or redesign of control systems in coordination with sales and manufacturing functions.  Ensure designs fully meet or exceed employer, client and practical needs for reliability, operation and performance.
  • Evaluate options and capabilities to optimize the cost effectiveness of designs.  Identify optimal solutions for assigned applications.  Review, clarify, and validate bill of materials and tech documents to both internal and external customers.
  • Perform complete & professional programming of VFD’s, PLC’s and HMI systems.
  • Manage product transition through design, production, testing and commissioning.  Direct new design prototyping and testing, interpret results and make refinements.
  • Provide technical support as needed for both internal and external sales people including the areas of product selection and application.
  • Perform on-site service and commissioning of systems (20-30% travel is typical).


  • Have earned 4-year bachelor’s EE (preferred) or ME degree.
  • Have 1/4/8+ years’ experience of relevant experience for Engineer 1, 2, Sr. roles.
  • Possess strong skills related programming and commissioning PLC’s & VFD’s.
  • At or near SME in systems theory, P&ID’s & schematics & rotating equipment.
  • Always be customer oriented, work well with others and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Strong communication & presentation skills are a must (both verbal & written).
  • Effectively collaborate on designs, then independently execute tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Critically analyze problems and/or client issues, communicate needs / plans and then lead the process of implementing and verifying the solution.
  • Cheerfully navigate shifting priorities and accommodate demanding clients.
  • Grow technical and applications skill for assigned markets, systems and products. Regularly improve effectiveness, expand contribution and provide leadership.
