CNC Repair & Maintenance Technician

A company with several locations throughout the US is seeking a CNC Repair & Maintenance Technician to run maintenance, set up, troubleshoot, and repair CNC machines, lathes, and mills of various makes and models. 

Compensation:  $DOE + Potential Bonus


  • Participate in maintaining a safe work environment for everyone on site
  • Responsible for performing a variety of routine and complex tasks including setup, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and improvement of all production equipment
  • Update all appropriate logs, charts and records keeping accurate and timely records/logs of maintenance and other documents
  • Understand the proper use of CNC, manual lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, manual milling and associated equipment
  • Develop alternative solutions to present as repair options while the technically best or correct solution is found
  • Follow maintenance schedule for preventative maintenance on all equipment to ensure that production schedules are met with properly functioning equipment
  • Work and communicate with Production Management, Regional Management, and support staff
  • Install and maintain CNC equipment to include troubleshooting and repairing their mechanical, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Ensure preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, facilities maintenance are addressed on a timely and proactive basis
  • Maintain all production machines to ensure maximum running efficiency
  • Retain and follow instructions from management which will include handling multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Team player, proactive and a self-starter
  • Hands on repairs and rebuilds of overall machine, its’ assemblies and sub-assemblies
  • Develop an equipment check, preventive and predictive maintenance activities as scheduled
  • Basic troubleshooting/diagnostic editing of CNC controls including Fanuc
  • Participate with maintenance engineering in root cause analysis for any failures of threading lathe, assemblies, and sub-assemblies and propose reliable solutions for repairs
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to machine components life span/inventory
  • Implement plans, organize tasks with any 3rd party contractors and complete the work reports for the turning lathe PM's events, repair, overhauls
  • Train/mentor other maintenance personnel of machine build, functionality and fitting of machine tool and CNC controls
  • Organize and prioritize work load and meet deadlines
  • Provide input to the development of technical specifications for threading lathe repairs and improvements
  • Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
  • Must follow all company policies, practices and regulations to include Safety, Quality, ad Production
  • Prioritize work, finding efficient ways to accomplish tasks, and then communicate them
  • Work with planners, tool designers, engineering, and customers as required, to finalize plan
  • Monitor and verify quality of work in accordance with all aspects of the program to ensure machines are functioning as intended
  • Develop operator set-up sheets for numerical control machines
  • Communicate detailed turnovers to technicians, verbally and written
  • Act as the administrator for CNC operating system


  • Must have an ability to troubleshoot a problem to completion and repair including evaluating symptoms and determining root causes
  • Working experience with manual machines and CNC machines
  • Knowledge in the procedures and safety measures
  • Good math computation, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with all levels within the organization
  • 5 to 8 years machine tool controls experience; G&L 8000, GE Fanuc and a variety of other makes and models
  • 3 - 5 years mechanical drive train and hydraulic component experience required
  • 3 - 5 years machine shop experience preferred 5 to 8+ year work experience in servicing lathe with 4-5 axis is preferred
  • 5 to 8+ years of experience with lathe rebuilds, assessments and acceptance is preferred
  • Ability to operate CNC lathe is required
  • Experience using and interpreting ball bar test results, thermal imaging is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills, decisive, detail oriented and self-starter
  • Ability to understand and evaluate OEM’s technical studies/ reports related to machine maintenance
  • 3-5+ years in manufacturing/facilities maintenance preferred
  • Electrical disconnections
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Diagnose failures, repair and follow up on problem solution procedures related to CNC lathes and mills
  • Should have a wide-ranging knowledge of machine tools including lathes, mills, drills, grinders, mullet-spindle and lathes
  • Experience with automation/robotics and all assorted electronics a plus
  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical school or degree preferred
  • Familiarity with the state and local electrical codes
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, ISO 9001, Preventative/Predictive Maintenance, Electrical, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, AC/DC
  • Experience with CNC Lathes, Manual Lathes, and Welding Equipment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understanding of wiring diagrams, schematics, ladder logic, motor control circuitry
  • Mechanical aptitude to include compressors, pneumatic pumps, multipliers, cylinders and controls
  • Ability to use precision measuring devices mechanical and electrical; calipers, micrometers, DVM’s
  • Experience using presses, overhead cranes, pressure gauges and precision measuring instruments
  • Must have PLC and relay logic experience
  • Must have experience with electrical disconnects
  • Proficient with Windows based computers and Microsoft Office 2007 or later 
  • Experience with automation/robotics & all assorted electronics a plus
