ASME Pressure Vessel Production / Fabrication Shop Manager

Position Type: Direct Hire

Position Location: Smithville, TX 

Position Pay: $80,000 - $120,000 (Depending on Experience) + Bonus + Relocation Assistance

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all production, quality, inventory, shipping, and receiving personnel in an ASME manufacturing / fabrication shop.
  • Anticipates, plan, and schedule personnel and material to meet production requirements.
  • Participates and contribute to production meeting to assure prompt delivery of products required to both internal and external customers.
  • Anticipates production load demand to make recommendations for adjustments to work force.
  • Maintains daily production schedule for all aspects of production including fabrication, quality, and coatings.  Uses production schedule to optimize work force, reduce overtime, and improve efficiency. 
  • Develops and implements procedures to improve production efficiency and quality.
  • Develops in-house training for new employees including skilled labor such as Code welders and vessel fitters.  Ensures current employees receive cross-training to additional support.
  • Interprets production package from office including drawings and project specifications to ensure all requirements of projects are satisfied.
  • Assist quality department in developing inspection requirements consistent with project specifications.
  • Coordinate production and quality personnel to ensure inspections are completed as required to eliminate impacts on production time.
  • Ensures the performance of in-process quality by utilizing and applying acceptable and proper manufacturing procedures and practices.
  • Maintains a safe work environment; ensures appropriate procedures are followed; complies with all legal regulations. 
  • Assures that work is set-up and performed in a safe manner, adhering to all safety rules and methods, and avoiding all unsafe practices.
  • Audits workflow verifying operating instructions are used for equipment; assists with troubleshooting equipment breakdowns; ensures appropriate preventative maintenance techniques are used on equipment; communicates with maintenance regarding equipment repairs; responsible to provide shop personnel with appropriate materials to complete work.
  • Handles personnel issues as necessary and takes corrective action within company policies.
  • Appraises subordinate performance and knowledge providing constructive feedback and guidance on an informal, day-to-day basis.
  • Performs formal evaluations as scheduled. Leads and directs employees by ensuring adherence to performance standards, recognizing accomplishments, addressing performance issues, implementing performance improvement plans, and coaching/counseling as appropriate.
  • Responsible for all documentation related to managing subordinates. Including, but not limited to, recommendations for promotion or pay increases, disciplinary action, and safety compliance.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED a minimum; Higher Education preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication shop related to the oil and gas industry or closely related industry that would directly lend itself to the individual being successful in the custom fabrication environment
  • Experience in pressure vessel, heat exchanger, or flare stack manufacturing
  • At least 3+ years’ experience in a leadership/management or supervisory role
  • Must have strong background experience working with ASME & API codes/standards; Background in NDE and quality is a plus
  • Must be familiar with ASME IX welding requirements and ASME VIII-1 and VIII-2 requirements as related to fabrication and production.
  • Must be able to read and interpret ASME welding procedures and welder qualification documents.
  • Must have technical experience necessary to comprehend customer’s project specifications and ensure all requirements are satisfied during production. 
  • Strong customer service and relationship skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills, specifically the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective action and preventable measures.
